Dolpo Trekking Via Dho - Tharap

Lower Dolpo Experience Trek requires sportive and good physical condition. This trek is level 4 in the category of trekking and walking.  The classic route begins from Dunai gradually uphill by passing several villages towards beautiful valley of Dho-Tarap which highly populated area of Dolpo. Crossing over more than 5000 m of Numa-La and Baga-La are highest pass of the circuit. Numerous monasteries and Chhorden are scattered across the valley.

The people of Dolpo practices Bon Buddhism having own custom and tradition. The modern medical care does not exist in Dolpo. They are still practicing AMCHI, the Tibetan medicine, based on herbs and natural product of Tibet and Himalaya.

Another attraction is the deepest and second largest lake of Nepal, PHOKSUNDO LAKE situated at 3600 m with fresh blue turquoise alpine water. Lower Dolpo Trek located inside in SHEY-PHOKSUNDO NATIONAL PARK where you will find variation of flora and fauna. Dolpo region was opened for group trekkers since 1989.

Trekking Program:
D.1. Arrival in Kathmandu.Welcome at airport and transfer to hotel ( hotel included.)

D.2.Free day in Kathmandu. sight seen historical and world heritage site.

D.3. Leaving Kathmandu in plane for NEPALGANJ (1h). Views on the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiris, Manaslu  and 2nd flight of 45min. for JUPHAL. (Flights can be delayed according to climatic conditions)
D.4. JUPHAL 2550m, short stop and descent (3h) up to DUNAI (2150m), capital of DOLPO.
D.5. DUNAI, leaving by the river BARBUNG KHOLA, for THARAKOT, the beginning of Buddhist country where the first stupas appear. (about 5h of walk). Fortress to be visited.
D.6. We quit Tharakot by following the gorges of TARAP and by the numerous forests; we join LAHINI (3200m) after about 5 hours of walk.
D.7. Leaving LAHINI for NAURE ODAR at 3100m, numerous caves.
D.8. Leaving NAURE ODAR to join DHO TARAP (4000m), the most important village of TARAP valley known as "valley of good horses". To arrive in DHO - difficult path - about 7 hours of uphill walk. The vegetation becomes rarefied.
D.9. Rest day in DHO TARAP and acclimatization to altitude, visit of the village of Tibetan origin with 2 big active monasteries.
D.10. Leaving in the direction of NUN LA, regular climb, last Tibetan temples. Camping at an altitude of 4100m.
D.11. After about 2 h of walk, first high pass at 5200m, NUN LA PASS (the pass of salt). Superb views on the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiris and Nilgiris. Camp according to the freshness of spirit at about 4200m, slow walk of 4 h.
D.12. Crossing of the pass of BAGLA LA (5090m) and descent towards the Tibetan village of RINGMO and the magnificent lake of PHOKSUNDO where we visit the monastery of TESU.
D.13. Rest day in RINGMO. This village is inhabited by the "Bothias" of Tibetan and Magar origin. The "Bon" monastery of TESU (ancient pre-Buddhist religion of Tibet), guides all aspects of life of the village.
D.14. We meet again the vegetation, cultivated fields and Tibetan villages on descending by the river SULI GAD towards CHEPKA village.
D.15. Leaving CHEPKA to join DUNAI?. We will certainly encounter the salt carrying Tibetan caravans on the way. This is often done on the pack-saddle of goats or mules.
D.16. Return to JUFAL (uphill walk of about 3 hours) and flight for NEPALGANJ. (Flight can sometimes be delayed by one day).
D.17. Flight NEPALGANJ/ KATHMANDU.

PRICE INCLUDING : In TREK Full board from /To Nepalganj. All the unfolding of trek. Accommodation under tent, Nepalese trek staff with a professional English speaking guide - specialist of Dolpo. Nepali cook to prepare all the meals, and porters to assure all the carrying of your bags. The domestic flights Kathmandu / Nepalganj and Nepalganj/Juphal (go and back included). The trek permits; transports of guide, cook, porters, food and tents in plane (without this it takes 11 days on foot + bus). 


THE PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE : your insurances, the drinks. The meals in Nepalganj and all airport taxes in Nepal.  NOTE: The flight Kathmandu/Nepalganj/Juphal and the return can be delayed by 1 to 2 days due to climatic conditions. Our Company will not be responsible in the delay due to climate problem.

Note: All participants have to give a copy of their insurance, with the address, tel and fax number of insurance company. This insurance has to cover the helicopter rescue in case of accident or sickness. In case of your insurance don't cover helicopter rescue, you have to fill a form in Kathmandu and make agreement that you will pay yourself the amount of expenses paid by Nepal Assemble Treks for your helicopter rescue or research. Without this agreement, you cannot participate in trek.

In The trek
the guide is allowed to change the itinerary, depending of the weather, climate and the physical condition of participants. Each participant who stop his trek or make changes any form of program may not ask any money compensation to the agency.
